Don't Hold Back!

Hey Friends,

Isaiah 54:2 says, “Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes”. We feel it's important to “not hold back” as we make room for even more people to find Hope in 2013!

2012 Looking back…

  • Over 1,000 people came through our doors!
  • We served over 11,000 pancakes and 300 gallons of coffee.
  • We gave away 1,000 Christmas gifts to kids along with 500 skateboard decks and a free BBQ!

2013 Looking forward…

We want to go big and invite more to be a part of Hope! We are sending a postcard to thousands of homes in our community, inviting them to our FEBRUARY 10th LAUNCH which will include..  The launch of our new 9:00am and 10:30am services with pancakes for everyone at 10:00am starting February 10th,  The start of our six-week relationship series

Free bacon! Free pancakes!  Free surfboard giveaway from Michel Junod!

  • This coming Sunday, Jan 27th we will be having a Hope team huddle! We will be explaining details and our vision for 2013 at Hope and providing different training for different service teams.
  • This year has great opportunities for you to get connected in a Hope Hangout group starting the first week of February and get involved in one of our service teams where we help and create a place for other people.

Will you please consider joining us in praying for Santa Cruz Hope, getting more involved through volunteering, or giving financially to help us in “not holding back” and “enlarging” the opportunities for more people to find and follow Jesus?

We have faith that we can give away more pizza, more pancakes, skateboards, faith, hope, and love to Santa Cruz county and beyond!

Hold on to Hope,

Danny Bennett

It's the first Saturday of the month, and that means Pancakes at the Point from 8am to 10am at Pleasure Point! If you’re interested in helping out, please contact Dustin Stone at (714) 321-0471. Come lend a hand or feel free to just grab a pancake and hang out!

Hold on to Hope,

 Danny Bennett

New message series starts January 6th!

Our vision is to start a new church for people who don't go to church to love coming to church! Everyone's welcome, so we want to create a place where people can come as they are, kick the tires of faith in an environment of grace and understand what we're talking about. Over the upcoming weeks we'll unpack-age and demystify some of the key of Christian spirituality and help define what it means to be a part of a church community. Join us as we drop in to an adventure of discovering a deeper connection with God and our purpose here on earth.

An open letter to the Hope Family

Dear Hope family,

Just a little over a year ago, 22 people jammed into our living room to join Jenny and I in launching Santa Cruz Hope.  None of us had any idea what God was about to do.

Soon we found ourselves utilizing the Del Mar gym each Sunday morning to serve pancakes and share the word of God. Now about 120 people join us each time—for many it’s their first church experience ever.  To date, nearly 400 people have invited Jesus into their lives through Santa Cruz Hope!

God is getting people on the East Side stoked about him!
In addition to our Sunday gathering, we now host a dozen groups that see some 100 people in fellowship each week, and our weekly “Skate Church” reaches many more.  All together, we estimate that Hope is connecting with more than 300 people monthly!

What we are witnessing is confirmation of the vision the Lord gave to Jenny and I when Hope first began. Hope is a place for those that don’t go to church to come to find and follow Jesus with chill style, real faith and no perfect people allowed. - A church for the rest of us.

Now it’s time to prepare to ride some bigger spiritual waves.

Isaiah 54:2 says, “Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes….”

Jenny and I feel strongly that we are called to get ready to “enlarge the place of our tent” and to “not hold back” as we make room for even more people to find Hope!

There are over 16,000 housing units within a mile of Del Mar, the elementary school where we meet in each Sunday morning. That’s a lot of people who need the good news of Jesus Christ. We must stretch our tent curtains wide and prepare to meet their needs with additional outreach ministries. This year, we’re praying that we can give away 1000 Christmas gifts to local children!

We also sorely need some official office space. Not only do we need a healthy separation from conducting church business in my kitchen, but we also need a base of operation. Our office will not only be a workplace for volunteers and interns, but it will serve as the Santa Cruz Hope community’s hub for meetings and ministry throughout the week.
Enlarging our tent will require hard work. I want to encourage you to consider using your unique gifts, abilities, and passions to help us reach more people with the message of Jesus.  You’re going to be needed in the coming months more than ever.
Lengthening our cords and strengthening our stakes will require money—we estimate that we’ll need an extra $2500 per month to rent office space and fund new ministries. This would include administrative support for Hope as well as Hope Kids. With Skate Church and Hope Kids on Sundays we serve over 100 children weekly.
What I am humbly asking is that, if you are not currently contributing financially to Hope each month, will you pray about it? Jenny and I raise our own salaries and give 10 percent of that income to the church—it’s a Biblical model we believe in.
Please pray about how much you could give.
There’s easy ways to give online at our website www.santacruzhope.com/donate,

or by check in the Birdhouse at our Sunday gathering, or by mail (P.O. Box 1715 Capitola, CA 95010.)  We are a registered 501c3 non-profit, so all donations are tax deductible and you will receive a statement at the end of the year to use when filing your taxes.

Thanks for taking the time to read this important letter.

Important Announcement

Fall is here and we have so many exciting things happening at Santa Cruz Hope! Sunday, September 16th is our Fall Launch Party! Just like the launch team that started in our house last year, we want to bring everyone into the story of hope. Join us for free bacon-covered Pleasure Pizza and root beer floats as we tell the story and invite others to join the team!

Secondly, House Groups launch the following week. Starting September 23rd we'll start all new groups at different locations/times for up to 100 people! Take the next step and join the party!

Next, we were hoping to start Skate Church this week, but we need to push it back to Wednesday September 26th! Santa Cruz Skate and Surf is now the Grind Out Hunger University. Through sick skate ramps and more we'll provide a positive and fun place for youth on the East Side.  Proceeds will help feed kids in our community!  The nights will change as well. Skate Church will now be moving back to one night with separate times for different age groups.  1st through 5th graders will be able to have pizza and skate from 5-6:30pm while the teens wil run from 7-8:30!  So come, bring your kids and all the local groms to get stoked on Skate Church Wednesday, September 26th!

Also, we always want to be helping and giving back to the community. Something that has always been on our hearts is pancakes, so on Saturday, September 29th we will be serve  our first ever "Pancakes on the Point"!  No Hook attached... From 8-10am we will serve pancakes to everyone at the point! For Free! And we'd love for lots of people to help with that as well!

Lastly, we hope you'll drop in this Sunday as we conclude "The Sunday Affect" series and receive a special offering to give gifts to the teachers of Del Mar Elementary! Let's launch into this new season together with Hope!

Aloha,

Danny

Can we find true peace?

Tomorrow - we'll share a moment of silence to pray for the victims and families in Aurora, CO. The message series "The Sunday Affect" will continue. Join us on a journey through the book of Ephesians to discover who we are, what we have and how to live in Christ. The focus of this week is finding and living in true peace.

Also, we have two important announcements for this week:

1. This week’s BBQ is changing nights and location. It will now be picnic style at the Capitola Beach Twilight Concert - This Wednesday, July 25 from 6-8pm. The band is called: "City Rocks." We will meet at the beach wall just down from Zelda's outdoor patio & spread out from there onto the beach. Bring your own food and beach toys....chairs & blankets. Suggestion: drop off your stuff & park near 702 Beverly, the Martinez's house & walk down. Don't forget jackets! 2. Hope Youth- We're stoked to add more ramps and renovate the Skate Shop where Hope Youth (AKA- Skate Church) meets weekly. So due to construction - the Monday & Wednesday groups will be on hold for the next two weeks. There will be some alternative activities led by our youth volunteers. Please join the Hope Youth Facebook Group to stay in the loop and find out more - Click here to join!

Lastly, we just wanted to let you know that we have a new website with updated blogs, podcast and an easy online giving option. Check it out at www.santacruzhope.com.
